A Brother’s Vocation

Br. Dave Sommer helping a parishioner

As Brothers our first call is to glorify God. Simply put, we try to follow in the footsteps of the Apostles, who left everything to go out and spread the knowledge and love of Jesus. A Missionary Servant does this in particular ways: working to preserve the faith among those who are poor and abandoned, and fostering in all Catholics a deep awareness that they too are called to be apostles!

How does a Missionary Servant do all of this?

Although some are called to serve as religious priests, the Missionary Servants have a strong tradition of living the  missionary life as religious Brothers. You will find our Brothers working in community  centers, HIV/AIDS clinics, prisons, hospitals, administering religious/social agencies or in the driver’s seat of a tractor! You can  find him giving retreats, facilitating diocesan gatherings, organizing soccer leagues, or advocating for the poor and under-privileged as a lawyer. There is no limit to the ways in which a Missionary Servant Brother can serve God and God’s people, while being part of a tradition that respects and uses the gifts of each individual.

Opportunities…

Wherever there is an opportunity to advance the cause of the Gospel, to bring the Good News to the people who long to hear it -that’s where our Brothers will be! He’ll be living his life of prayer in a community of  service that reaches out to the poor and abandoned and  transforms peoples’ lives as Jesus himself did.
